MY STORY
Welcome back! It's been a while, I've missed you, and I'ved missed this blog. It's time to bring all of it back to life! I think a little re-introduction is in order.
Hi, I'm Camila, and this is a little bit about my story. I've been lucky enough to be born into the weirdest mix of parents, Scottish mum and Chilean dad, I am the ultimate mutt. Thanks to my parents my travels started when I was 6 weeks old, and haven't stopped since.
After dinners with friends, and photos on social media I realize I became an unofficial travel agent really quickly. I really didn't think my travel style or my travel adventures were different to anyone else's, until all the inquieries began. I figured if these people want to know where I go and what I do, maybe other people do too?
My traveling has never been to seek out some resort you never leave, lay on a touristy beach, take some pictures to just say "I've done it" or "I've been there". As much as a cliche this is, my travel is about exciting experiences, meeting incredible people, and ultimately creating the most valuable memories. "Be as you wish to seem" is what I live by. All the pictures I take are from a places I've been, and actual things I've done, or maybe just attempted doing many times..
Work is so limiting with the amount of time you have off, better make it count. Every single job I worked, every birthday, all the Christmases, basically any money I received growing up went towards buying one thing: a plane ticket. My goal was and still is to fall asleep every night knowing I had an adventure that day, no matter how big or how small, you never know which day may be your last.
My brother suddenly died in an accident in December 2015, it made me realize that everything can slip away in a simple second. He was and forever remains my ultimate role model, and best friend. He knew how to live life. His #LiveLikeStefano has been used because of his uniquely awesome lifestyle. It serves as a constant reminder that our time is now, life is going by quickly, we have to make the most of it. I am going to do my best to ensure that you get to see, eat (obviously), meet, and maybe even push yourself out of your "normal" and into the best trips you can take.
At one point in 2018, after many years dipping my toes in other people's vacations, I got offered a job at a travel travel agency in Miami. It's crazy to think that I've been in this industry for almost ten years now. My days were filled with planning people's vacations and making sure they were on track to having their best adventure possible. After what was a relatively short time in the world of travel agencies, something changed the entire world. Let's go back to March 2020, Coronavirus is spreading like wild fire, people are afraid to go outside of their homes, and by no means was anyone flying on a plane. My short-lived agency career came to a sudden halt. While the Covid was traumatizing and tragic to so many around the world, I actually loved it. I got to write about travel, spend some much needed time with my parents, time to heal, and connect in new ways with so many around the world.
It wasn't until about year later when people slowly started traveling again that things changed again for me. I decided not to go back to the agency I had been working for, and took a chance with building my own travel agency, which might not have been the best idea given the atmosphere at the time, but I'm glad I did. Escapadez was born, my small, boutique travel agency. Where I get to put my touch, care, experience, and excitement into each trip I have the privilege of working on.
Also, through this industry, other agencies and agents join in networking events for hotels, airlines, etc. It was here that I met a very special man, someone who would change everything in my life, he asked me to marry him. We tied the knot in October 2023.
Looking back at the last ten years that I've had writing the blog, who would have thought that I would be a business owner, get married, and still get to travel and explore the world.
After about a 6 year hiatus from the blog, it's coming back to life. Not with the luxury touches that my company Escapadez incorporates, but the OG stuff. The real reason I got into everything. I hope it brings comfort, imagination, wanderlust and inspiration to all of you. I invite you to get in touch, I'm always looking for new ideas of where to go and what to write. I will be doing blog posts about different topics, experiences, Q&A with locals around the world, where to stay, etc. I also want to hear from you, please let me know if there is something you are curious about, I'll do my best to get back to you!
All my love,
Camila Aime
