Kava is a drink that is made with earth and water. It's not alcoholic but can come with a relaxing feeling. It's not a drug, but can give feelings of numbness and relaxation.
what do you do at a kava ceremony?
You will sit in a circle around a big wooden bowl (I'm not sure the technical name the use for the bowl) and the chief will mix the plant root with water. There is a little chant and hand clapping before drinking it. They will explain everything when you're there. It's also common to bring Kava as a gift to the chief, you can buy it at most open air markets.

It's a cool experience and it really gives you a taste, literally, of what Fiji is all about. Like Hawaiians have their Luau, Fijians have a kava ceremony. It's also a great way to meet people.
The Kava ceremony will usually happen in the evening after dinner, dinner is not included in the kava ceremony.
how to get there
Most hotels have a kava ceremony, if not one at a hotel on an island close by or another hotel on the island you're on will usually have one.
