There are many ways to see the beautiful islands of Fiji. If you're looking for pure adventure and/or are traveling on a budget, these 5 resorts are exactly where you should stay.

1. Coral View Resort

Part of the Yasawa Island chain, this resort was our favorite spot in Fiji. Not because the accommodation was necessarily the most comfortable, but because the staff was the most incredible. Our days were spent visiting their local recommendations. Depending on the weather ended up either Brooke Shields' famous cave, snorkeling with ancient animals, or learning how to crack open coconuts with a palm leaf. Nights were spent at dinner together having, followed by singing of classic Fijian songs, playing cards, learning the Bula dance, or tasting cava.

I recommend getting a private Bure, little bungalow, versus staying in the common room. There is not much of a price difference and the four of us were really comfortable in the Bure. The bungalow was made up of one bunk bed and one double bed with it's own bathroom, and sundeck.

2. Mantaray Island Resort

Well, I guess the name of this hotel kind of gives it all away. This little resort is surrounded by...wait for it...lots and lots of Manta-rays! Whether you're in the common co-ed dorm or in your own private Bure, you will likely make many new friends at breakfast or in the water. The common dining area is where all meals are had together, you may get interrupted by the beating of the drum which means a manta has been spotted in the water. You will then have 5 minutes to rush down to the boat, pick up some googles and fins and jump in with these beautiful gentle giants. Needless to say, breakfast in your bathing suit is recommended.

At night you will experience volleyball, pizza sunsets, fire dancing, and many more activities with the other guests.

3. Beachcomber Resort

Probably the most famous resort in Fiji for the young traveler (or not young, whatever). This resort is the "party" resort. Compared to some other places around the world, the partying here can be seen as a bit more chill, rest assured it's the ultimate beach party. Leave your shoes in the room, no seriously, I lost my flip flops, RIP Havaianas, you'll be dancing in the sand all night. There are 4 happy hours throughout the day, so you'll have plenty of chances to sip on your favorite cocktails. The post dinner activities involve hermit crab races, djs, fire dancers, etc. Aside from partying, you can escape on some of the snorkeling adventures offered at the hotel or just explore the island.

4. Funky Fish Resort

This cute little resort is perfect if you want to stay somewhat close to Nadi and/or are a surf enthusiast. Funky Fish was a very relaxing resort, it was in a perfect location to get out to Cloudbreak or to have lunch on the incredible Cloud 9. This is also the only resort we stayed at on an island, aside from the main island, that had a pool. The island was quite windy, great conditions for those looking to do some kiteboarding or windsurfing.

5. Mango Bay Resort

Located on the south side of Fiji's main island, Viti Levu, is this small welcoming resort. Our Bure was borderline comfortable for the three of us, but definitely couldn't fit any more people. Being close to Pacific Harbour is great for thrill seekers, as it is the adventure capital of Fiji. For those of you that want to go rafting, zip lining, 4x4 driving, or take a swim in some waterfalls, this is your place. Getting here can be done by transfer from Nadi, or if you want a bit more of an adventure, take the public transportation. Don't be surprised when the bus leaves you at the side of the road, that being said, you will need to let the bus driver know that you are staying at this hotel so they stop.

From Mango Bay we were able to go to neighboring hotels easily to watch fire walking shows and participate in cava ceremonies. This hotel has lots of daily activities and has different water activities for those interested in paddle boarding or kayaking. The game room is active and comes to life after dinner. This is one of the two resorts we stayed in that had a pool.
